Garnets
I attempt to accurately represent and describe cut stones and rough
as to appearance, size, origin and fully disclose any known
treatments in its description. Because you view the images on a
different monitor with different settings, color is particularly fickle
to represent, but I do my best.

Stone #:  Gem 0028
Material: Garnet
Type: Umbalite Rhodolite
From: Umba Valley, Tanzania
Design: Starlight (designed by Jeff R. Graham)
Cut By: Dan Starr
Basic Shape: Square with checkerboard crown
Size: 10.25mm wide x 6.8mm deep
Clarity:  VS
Weight: 5.00 carats
Price:  Sold
Treatments:  None known
Note: Umbalite Garnet is sometimes called the King of Rhodolites. It is
an intense purple pink color that has that extra kick that makes people
say "Oooooh!" This stone has two very  very small inclusions that you
need a 10x loupe to see and that don't affect the color or brilliance of the
finished stone. I have never kept a stone for myself that I've cut.  They
have either been sold or given away.  But this stone is really tempting
me!  I included a picture above of the rough stone backlit because I think
it shows the color off very well.

Size: 6.65 mm wide x 4.2 mm deep
Clarity: IF
Weight: 1.44 carats
Price: Sold to Pat

It is an intense purple pink color that has that extra kick that makes
people say "Oooooh!" This stone has at least one miniscule
inclusion that I saw once, but that I can't find again. This is a new
design I came up with last week.  The twisted pavilion paired with
the step crown make for a dynamite combination!  It is very bright
and similar in color to the hot pink tourmalines with added purple.
At $200/ct it's priced just above the mean wholesale price for this
material. It's a real bargain.

Stone #:  Gem 0019
Material: Garnet
Type: Rhodolite
From: Kangala, Tanzania, Africa
Design: Pearl (designed by Jeff R. Graham)
Cut By: Dan Starr
Basic Shape: Pear with checkerboard crown
Size: 9.7mm long x 8.3mm wide x 5.8mm deep
Clarity:  VS
Weight: 3.10 carats
Price:  Sold
Treatments:  None known
Note: This material is often called Raspberry Rhodolite for it's
distinctive color. This comes from a very small area in East Africa
known as Kangala. The mining area is mostly picked clean, so if
you're looking for this classic color, you should get them while they
last. This stone has one long thin black needle that doesn't affect the
color or brilliance of the finished stone.

Stone #:  Gem 0021
Material: Garnet
Type: Rose Malaya Garnet
From: Tanzania
Design: Gentleman's Choice (designed by Jeff R. Graham)
Cut By: Dan Starr
Basic Shape: Rectangle with checkerboard crown
Size: 11.9mm long x 10.55mm wide x 7.3mm deep
Clarity:  VS
Weight: 8.10 carats
Price: Sold
Treatments:  None known
Note: Rose Malaya Garnet is predominantly almandine with this
example being more on the reddish side of the spectrum. It has a
deep red/peach flash. The peach shows up best under fluorescent
light and the red under incandescent light. This stone has several
very small bubbles that you need a 10x loupe to see and that don't
affect the color or brilliance of the finished stone. I chamfered the
sharp corners to prevent any future chipping at the corners. So this
should be called a modified "Gentleman's Choice."

Stone #:  Gem 0037
Material: Garnet
Type:  Pyrope
From: Kenya
Design: Brilliant Check Heart (designed by Dan Starr)
Cut By: Dan Starr
Basic Shape: Heart with checkerboard crown
Size: 9.3 mm wide x 9.7 mm long x 6.3 mm deep
Clarity:  VS
Weight: 3.96 carats
Price: Sold
Treatments:  None known
Note: Blood Red Pyrope Garnet is colored as the name suggests: blood red.  It
has none of the gray or black tones that other pyrope sometimes has.  This stone
is not over saturated.  It has some great red flashes and looking past the
reflections of the checkerboard, you can see through to the pavilion facets easily.
Make your loved one happy!  It's a bit large for a ring, but will make a great
necklace!

Material: Garnet
Type: Rhodolite

Basic Shape: Pear with checkerboard crown
Size: 10.4mm long x 8.3mm wide x 8.0mm deep

known as Kangala. The mining area is mostly picked clean, so if
you're looking for this classic color, you should get them while they

brilliance of the finished stone. The price is marked down to
compensate. Oh...to make this even more distinctive, the crown is a
checkerboard cut!

Stone #: Gem 0016
Material:  Garnet
Type: Andradite Grossularite Mix
From: Mali
Design: Starlight (designed by Jeff R. Graham)
Cut by: Dan Starr
Basic Shape: Square with checkerboard crown
Size: 6.6mm wide x 4.6mm deep
Clarity: P1
Weight: 1.41 carats
Price: Sold
Treatments:  None known
Note: Another checkerboard crown design. This design was easy
to cut and shows off the Mali Garnet very well. The stone is much
more yellow and bright than any of these pictures. Although it can't
be seen in any of these photos, there is a veil that extends from just
under the table to partially into the pavilion.
